Scholarship Support in Honor of Prof. Bridget O'Connor!

Professor Bridget N. O’Connor, beloved member of the Steinhardt faculty in Higher Education and Business Education, will be retiring from NYU at the close of this academic year. Former students of Professor O’Connor would like to send her off with a grand gesture by raising $5,000 for the General Administration, Leadership, and Technology Development Fund, which will support student scholarships in the Higher Education and Business Education programs.

Professor O'Connor has published dozens of articles in Journal of Education for Business, Informing Science, Journal of Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce, and NABTE Review. She has also authored or coauthored numerous yearbook chapters for the NBEA Yearbook. She has been a leader in a variety of professional associations, including the SIG Workplace Learning of AERA, which she chaired in 2000-2001 where she was also on the AERA SIG Executive Board, the American Society for Training and Development; and the Organizational Systems Research Association (OSRA).

Professor O'Connor has received numerous awards for her teaching, service, and scholarship. In 2009, she was the Steinhardt School's nominee for the NYU Distinguished Teaching Award. In January, 2006, she was a Fulbright Senior Specialist at Victoria Universityi in Melbourne, Australia Additionally, she was awarded the prestigious John Robert Gregg Award for her lifetime contributions to Business Education, the Elvin S. Eyster Award for Excellence in Business Education from Indiana University, the Professor of the Year Award from NYU's School of Education, and the Educator of the Year Award from both the Eastern Business Educational Association and the Business Education Association of Metropolitan New York.

Professor O’Connor and her husband, Professor Bronner, hosted annual holiday parties that started in their apartment in the Silver Towers.  They were tree trimming parties and students and faculty shared wonderful ornaments from around the world.  They would cook and prepare a feast for many!  Professor Bronner in his Santa Hat was always an excellent host and bartender (with a fully stocked bar of course!) and Professor O’Connor as Mrs Claus was always welcoming and gracious. Wonderful friendships were started and maintained at these parties year after year. In the last decade or so, the crowd size became unmanageable in their apartment, thus the festivities had to be moved into Pless Hall.  There, the professors continue to bring in alumni, year after year.  Many alumni often traveled from around the country and the world to return and say hi to old friends.  The sense of “coming home” to friends and family was always a feeling the professors nurtured and supported over decades.  This is what Business Education has become at NYU…  a community of family and friends…  all thanks for Professor O’Connor (and Bronner too!).

We will be celebrating Professor O’Connor during a retirement party on May 4, 2018. We’d love to also be able to celebrate reaching the goal of $5,000 for student scholarships. Please show your support today!
