Empower Lab International Conference
EMPOWER Research & Advocacy Lab
The Empower Lab is a clinical research and advocacy lab working to further gender equity through scientific approaches to issues of gender-based violence including sexual violence, sex trafficking, domestic violence, female genital cutting, military sexual trauma and other issues that disproportionately affect low-income women in New York City and around the world.
Our purpose is to inform the world about the groundbreaking research that our lab is doing in regard to sexual and gender based violence, and its effect on women’s health, including sex-trafficking, female genital cutting and other forms of trauma.
Four of our projects have been accepted to present at two international conferences to a crowd of over 8,000 from 140 countries: The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics and International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) 34th Annual Meeting. These are major opportunities for our student researchers to present unique findings to medical professionals from around the world. We also aim to raise awareness about these important issues and the clinical research that students at NYU are doing to combat them.
We need your support to enable us to travel to present our research at:
- FIGO World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics, October 14-19, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- ISTSS 34th Annual Meeting, November 8-10, Washington, D.C.
By funding this goal, you are not only helping us to spread knowledge about women’s health and wellness, but you are also supporting the aspirations of young professionals, many of whom are women pursuing a career in STEM.
