The Gallatin Theatre Troupe

Come to the Cabaret, old chum!

The Gallatin Theatre Troupe (GTT) works to create an open environment fostering the creative growth of Gallatin artists both individually and communally.

Every semester, GTT helps secure performance space for student projects and offers administrative and creative support as well as fostering the development of the theatre community at Gallatin--and beyond. GTT's flagship program in the fall is the Brandspankin' New Works Festival, which produces a series of student-written short plays. Brandspankin' provides Gallatin student writers with the opportunity to collaborate with directors and actors, bringing the work from page to stage. Many of the works fostered in Brandspankin' have gone on to additional productions at Manhattan Rep, the NY International Fringe Festival and elsewhere. Brandspankin' is a special event that brings together dozens of Gallatin student artists, and is a true celebration of interdisciplinary performance.  (Read NYULocal's coverage of the 2014 festival here).

GTT also nurtures and produces one full-length student-written play each spring as their Mainstage production, The final production of each academic year is usually the annual GTT Cabaret, which is now focused on producing the work of student composers and lyricists.

In addition to GTT's exemplary production programming, the club also hosts a variety of workshops and stand-alone events, such as the 24 Hour Play Competition, Musical Theater Jam Session and Playwrights' Roundtable.

Fundraising Initiatives:

Donations added to GTT’s budget will help GTT members hone their technical skills, facilitate the group’s ability to host readings and workshops such as tutorials in stage combat, accents and dialects for the stage, monologue performance and lighting technology, and provide the resources that will allow GTT to hire musicians to accompany productions. It will also help GTT to diversify programming, enabling the group to reach and involve more students in our productions.

Additional funding would allow GTT to invite top-tier guest artists to offer workshops, such as inviting the award-winning composer & lyricist duo, Pasek and Paul, to teach a musical theater writing workshop, or hosting a panel of fashion designers and Broadway costume designers to discuss the role of clothes in storytelling.

"Should you make a donation, you will receive a receipt from NYU that confirms this.  Note the receipt may indicate your gift is directed to the 'Dean's Discretionary Fund' or the general 'Gallatin: All In Crowdfunding Campaign,' but rest assured, your contribution will be used to support the specific program you've selected."
