Did you love your study abroad experience or wish you would you had the chance to? With your help, historically underrepresented students with financial need can have a life changing opportunity to study abroad, a chance they could otherwise not afford.

Some of us have had the opportunity to study abroad during our time at college and cherish it as one of the life changing experiences of our college career. Studying away is an invaluable experience to see the world and interact with different cultures in a way that is not possible when traveling independently after college. NYU Study Away has provided students with immersive experiences that has led them to discover their true paths, learn more about the world and even themselves. However, for some OP students, this option is out of reach. Close to 70% of OP students come from households that are within the federal poverty guidelines and more than half decide not to study away even though they have an opportunity to do so due to financial limitations.
“It was a money issue. I commute to NYU because I want to save my parents the money. When the idea of study abroad came around, I shut it down myself because I did not want my parents to struggle to support my abroad ambitions, so I stayed at the NYC campus.” – OP Student

We want to fulfill OP’s promise to our students by removing these limiting financial constraints, and enabling them to maximize their undergraduate experience with an enriching and productive semester away.
The funding will be used to directly to support students that study away.

Opportunity Programs are state funded programs in partnership with NYU that admit historically underrepresented and traditionally underserved New York State residents. OP provides a range of academic support that encourages students to maximize their experience, achieve their full academic potential, graduate and contribute to the betterment of their immediate and extended communities.

A gift of $15 can help an OP student experience the best of their study abroad location by assisting with bus/train fare.
Most students use bikes to go sight-seeing while abroad! A gift of $25 can help an OP student make the most of their study abroad experience by helping with bike rental costs and to keep them in shape.
While studying abroad is a life-changing experience, it is important to stay in touch with family at home. A gift of $50 can help purchase an International SIM card so an OP student can update family and friends on their experience abroad.
OP students need essentials for travel. A gift of $75 can help an OP student with purchasing luggage and other accessories needed for travel, such as a power converter.
Help an OP student make the most of their study abroad by exposing them to various cultural experiences such as museums, shows, exhibitions, sporting events etc. A gift of $100 can help offset costs for these essential experiences.
A gift of $125 can help offset the cost for an OP student to visit multiple cities during their study abroad experience. For example, this gift will cover the cost of a four city EuroRail pass.
A gift of $150 can assist with the fees associated with obtaining a passport, an absolute necessity for an OP student to study abroad.
A gift of $175 can help an OP student studying abroad to pay for fees associated with obtaining a Visa.
A hectic class schedule and distance limitations in train travel sometimes require students to fly to fully explore the country or even continent they are visiting. For example, a gift of $250 will help an OP student fly from the campus in Accra, Ghana to Johannesburg, South Africa or from Madrid, Spain to Lisbon, Portugal.
In order to secure their position on a trip, students need to make a deposit of $500. For many OP students, this cost can be overwhelming. With a gift of $500, you can help an OP student come one step closer to an incomparable study abroad experience.
Many OP students decide not to study abroad because the costs associated with getting to and from the location can seem daunting. A gift of $1,000 can help an OP student reduce their hesitation in studying abroad and help them overcome this cost hurdle.
