Comm*Unity 11.0

Hi there! Over the past decade, Comm*Unity, an Alternative Breaks trip designed for freshman commuter students at NYU, has traveled to Georgia during spring break to participate in service projects. In its eleventh year, Comm*Unity will continue this annual tradition by partnering with Inspiritus, an agency whose mission is to serve the local refugee population. We hope to learn more about their stories and experiences while providing assistance and support in their endeavors. Although the trip takes place in March, students start preparing for the trip in September, participating in weekly group meetings, and going on cultural and service outings every month. Weekly meetings are an hour long, and focus on specific themes, such as identity and oppression. Cultural outings include trips to museums, specific panels, and documentary screenings. Each outing is related to the overall theme of refugee rights and serves to help students learn about social justice issues. Your generous gift will help us achieve our dual goals, which are to serve the refugee population in Georgia but also to inspire the next generation of service-minded student leaders, who we hope will use what they have learned on the trip to serve both their own communities and communities away from home.
