New York University established the NYU Art Therapy in Schools Program in New York City in 1997. This progressive program, one of the few in the nation, emerged as an effective modality for students struggling with emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges. Art therapy services in schools have effectively responded to the diverse and ever-changing needs of students. The use of art-making to supplement, support, and enhance a therapeutic experience creates limitless potentiality for insight and growth in students. Additional funding will expand services as the mental health needs of students have been exacerbated by the pandemic.
