Welcome to NYU Rogue Aerospace!

Who We Are:

NYU Rogue Aerospace is New York University's only student-led, competition-based rocketry team dedicated to providing real-world aerospace experience and application to students of all backgrounds. Our mission is to design, build, launch, and analyze reusable rockets as a multidisciplinary team, giving students hands-on exposure and experience in the rapidly evolving aerospace industry. This past year, we competed in the NASA Student Launch Competition. This competition challenged the team to be proficient at both rocketry and robotics, and NYU Rogue Aerospace came away with 1st place for the Project Review Award, 2nd place for the Rookie Teams Award, and 1st place for the 2021 NASA Student Launch Overall Winner USLI Design Division as well as a $2,500 prize!

This year we are competing within the NASA Student Launch competition again as well as branching out and challenging ourselves with new competitions, mainly the AIAA Design/Build/Fly Competition. The NASA SLI requires us to design a rocket and payload which can reach an altitude between 4,000 to 6,000 ft and use a dual deployment recovery system in order to come back down safely. The payload’s role for this year is to locate the launch vehicle after it lands on a predetermined map without the use of GPS. This mission reflects the kind of situation we’d expect when landing on extraterrestrial bodies like Mars, where GPS is not available to us. We recently submitted our team's proposal and were selected among 46 teams nationally to compete. Missions include deployment of the aircraft, staging of vaccination syringes, and delivery of environmentally sensitive vaccine vial packages. Our Story:

Rogue Aerospace was founded by four people with big dreams and even bigger rockets. We saw that NYU did not have a large-scale rocketry team, and we sought to change that. Our first steps were to establish ourselves as professional rocketeers, with five members seeking official High Powered Rocketry Certifications (HPR) under the National Association of Rocketry. Our activity and involvement at NYU has skyrocketed, with our induction into the VIP (Vertically Integrated Projects) Program at NYU, which has provided us with resources that we could not have dreamed of just mere months ago. As a result of being under NYU's project umbrella, we have been given opportunities to showcase our achievements to influential members of the NYU community, including President Andrew Hamilton, Dean Jelena Kovačević, and even Grammy-nominated artist Chandrika Tandon. As of Fall 2021, Rogue Aerospace currently has 50+ members, 40% of whom are women. Within our team, members hail from 3 NYU schools representing 10+ diverse majors. Rogue Aerospace is committed to being a cross-school community that teaches, trains, and equips students of all backgrounds for exciting opportunities in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields.

Our Goal:

Our passion for rocketry cannot be said in words, but rather through actions, and NYU Rogue Aerospace can only go further from this point on. Partnering with us will allow students to continue pursuing their sky-high dreams and make ourselves a contender in the future of collegiate competitive-based aerospace. Our goal of $3,500 would immediately help us pay for necessary materials, competition and transportation fees, testing, and would benefit students to come through our in-house research and training program. We look forward to partnering with you and a gift of any size is greatly appreciated!
