In an era when most law schools did not admit women, NYU’s did. In an era when Jim Crow laws prevented aspiring teachers from being educated in their home states down south, NYU created a special program for them to earn degrees. In an era when young people returned from the Second World War, NYU educated more of them on the GI Bill than any other university.

The New York University Alumni Association has established the Forever Violet Scholarship in the pioneering spirit on which NYU was founded on: a school of opportunity that opened its doors to people from all classes and backgrounds. In conjunction with the affordability initiatives set forth by the University, this scholarship will support NYU students – the world’s future leaders - who might not otherwise be able to attend the University and take advantage of all that NYU has to offer.
The NYU Alumni Association intends to continue NYU’s tradition of transforming lives by ensuring affordability of college with this need-based scholarship, which will be awarded annually to two undergraduate students. These students will be descendants of NYU alumni or from underrepresented groups.
An NYU education provides the opportunity to shape future leaders and build our global community. The Forever Violet Scholarship helps to make attending NYU financially affordable and instill the values we cherish as members of the NYU Alumni Association.
