ICNYU Shia Chaplaincy & Muharram Majlis Campaign 2022

The Islamic Center at New York University has been an important voice for Muslims in America for more than 15 years and seeks to continue to build out its robust programming and services.

More than 5 years ago, ICNYU established the first Shia chaplaincy at any institute of higher education in North America and this Muharram we are looking for your continued support as we continue to make strides in building out our distinctive institution.

In a world of rampant Islamophobia, there are plenty of challenges in embracing ones’ religious identity and within the broader experience of marginalization that so many Muslims experience, Shia Muslims quite often find an absence of spaces for themselves on college campuses. 

At the Islamic Center at NYU things are different. A few examples include:

- Hosting Muharram Majalis programs for 10 years +

- Committed Shia scholarship on staff to serve community needs

- Religious Trips to Hajj, Ziyarat in Iraq and performance of Umrah

- Weekly halaqas, weekend seminars, podcasting and multimedia engagement, supporting the Shia community

And we don’t want to stop here…with your support, we’re hoping to increase religious literacy and academic engagement by increasing our religious and community programming, including the launch of a unique lecture series this year, with more events to come.
