Help an NYU LA student get to their dream internship!
The newest of NYU’s expansive network of global sites, NYU Los Angeles launched in the Fall of 2019. Each semester the program welcomes a cohort of advanced students interested in pursuing careers in the entertainment and media industries who engage in rigorous academic coursework taught by industry professionals. All students are required to enroll in the Experiential Learning Seminar which allows students the chance to pair their classroom experience with a meaningful internship opportunity, working 16-30 hours per week.
The goal of this Rising Violets NYU LA TRANSPORTATION FUND campaign is to provide NYU LA students who are facing financial hardship with stipends that will lower the barrier to opportunity created by the rising cost of transportation in Los Angeles. Many of our program alumni report that the internship experience at NYU Los Angeles was actually the "most impactful opportunity for professional development" during their academic careers. It is important to us at NYU LA that we are able to provide this experience to all eligible students, regardless of their socioeconomic background.
While Los Angelenos await transportation infrastructure improvements, our NYU LA students rely on personal vehicles (we encourage carpooling), rental vehicles, or rideshare options to commute to internships. For those without the privilege of access to a personal vehicle, the cost of renting a vehicle or ridesharing to the office can be as high as $80/day. For students in this position, a commute becomes a substantial barrier to a valuable career experience.
