We are seeking future investments in the Changemaker Fellowship as we strive to provide all students dedicated to social impact with equitable access to experiential learning and professional development opportunities.
Since the initial gifts, other generous donors have helped us to expand the Changemaker Fellowship program, which experienced a 200% increase in applications in the second year. Still, for summer 2023, we received 145 applications for 32 fellowships, clearly demonstrating the need to raise additional funds.
Launched in March 2020 with generous support from David A. Katz and Cecilia T. Absher and Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, the Changemaker Fellowship supports talented students who are dedicated to creating social impact. By offering a $5,000 - $10,000 grant, the fellowship opens access to transformative experiential opportunities for committed students regardless of financial need. The grant supports students' basic living expenses as they pursue unpaid internships that serve their communities, enabling them to gain invaluable experience, professional development, mentorship and networking opportunities.
Over the past four years, 96 Fellows across 14 different schools - including the College of Arts and Science, Gallatin School of Individualized Study, and Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development - have participated in the program, interning at a broad range of organizations, including the Anti-Defamation League, Harvard Immigration and Refugee Clinical Program, New York Legal Assistance Group, The Last Mile, and the U.S. Department of State. A full list of Fellows and their internships can be found on the NYU Changemaker Fellowship website.

Here's what previous Fellows have had to say about their experience:
“Thanks to your generosity, I have been able to have one of the most amazing summers doing what I love the most.”
“I know I wouldn't have been able to pursue my internship without the financial support given to me through the Changemaker Fellowship. And with that support and coaching, I was able to have an internship in the exact type of field I hope to work in in the future.”
“The Changemaker Fellowship also made me more excited about pursuing public interest by being a part of a group of fellow students that had similar interests.”
