Our Crowdfunding Groups
LAND, the Latin America News Dispatch, seeks funding to pay our journalists — NYU alumni, freelancers and university students from throughout Latin America and the Caribbean — who make this publication possible. Paying our journalists is a standard we have committed to uphold. With an annual budget of only $2,000 that must cover costs including website management and email marketing, we are sometimes forced to make the challenging decision to turn down brilliant pitches because of a lack of funding. Even with this essential support we receive from NYU Journalism and the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, we need your help to sustain this student-led, go-to Latinx news source in English for the journalists, diplomats, academics, activists, analysts and all interested readers we serve.
Founded in 2009, LAND has most recently published articles highlighting Indigenous-led Seed banks in the Amazon and the 2023 Argentine elections. At our core, we at LAND seek to work with journalists in all stages of their career and help develop their stories to make them as strong as possible. However, that process starts with making sure our reporters are paid appropriately for their hard work.
Our goal amount is $6,000. We pay our journalists between $150 and $200 depending on the nature of the story produced (analytical, investigative, photo-essay etc.) and the amount of previous experience the reporter has had. This goal will allow us to substantially increase the amount of stories we are able to publish annually while paying our journalists a fair rate.
