Since its establishment in 2016, the Contactless Robotics Team (CTR) at NYU Tandon has rapidly emerged as a leading force in the intersection of robotics and societal benefit. Our mission extends beyond traditional boundaries, embracing the challenge of making robotics an accessible and transformative field for individuals regardless of their prior experience. Through a series of meticulously designed workshops and interactive events, CTR has cultivated a vibrant community of learners, enthusiasts, and innovators passionate about the potential of robotics.
The Contactless Robotics Horizon Fund is our ambitious initiative aimed at addressing one of the most pressing urban challenges: environmental cleanliness and sustainability. At the heart of this project is the development of autonomous robotic systems capable of efficient waste management. Targeting the NYU Brooklyn campus as our pilot location, our vision is to spearhead a movement that champions smart, sustainable practices in urban waste management, with the broader goal of scaling these innovations across New York City and potentially nationwide.
Our commitment to leveraging technology for societal good is not new. Prior to the Horizon Fund, CTR made significant strides in the field of rehabilitation devices. We successfully designed and tested prototypes that offered innovative solutions to enhance the quality of life for individuals with mobility challenges. These projects not only showcased our technical prowess but also underscored our dedication to addressing real-world problems through collaborative engineering and design thinking.
With a fundraising target of $5,000, the Contactless Robotics Horizon Fund is set to embark on the journey of bringing our latest vision to fruition. Under the expert guidance of faculty advisor Rui Li, our team is poised to make significant contributions to the field of environmental robotics. This initiative is bolstered by strategic partnerships with prestigious entities such as NYU's Makerspace, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Science Foundation's I-Corps program, and NYU Langone Health. These collaborations provide us with a unique blend of resources, expertise, and perspectives, enriching our project's development and implementation phases.
As we move forward with the Contactless Robotics Horizon project, we invite the wider NYU community and external supporters to join us in this innovative venture. Our goal extends beyond the creation of autonomous robots; it encompasses the fostering of a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for our communities. Through this project, CTR reaffirms its commitment to harnessing the power of robotics for the greater good, building on our legacy of impactful innovation and community engagement.
